In light of the Council of Ministers meeting, which will be held this afternoon, 30/4/2026, and which will discuss the appointment of a Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation and the Head of the Judicial Inspection Authority, the Supreme Judicial Council issued the following statement:
The state of law and institutions cannot exist without an independent and effective judiciary, and the keenness of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Justice to fortify and consolidate this independence has been evident since each of them assumed their position of responsibility, whether in the oath speech, the ministerial statement, or in judicial appointments and formations. This keenness was also manifested in the recent approval of the new law regulating the judicial authority, even though it was nullified by a decision issued by the Constitutional Council. Nevertheless, it gave the Supreme Judicial Council the right to propose three names for ex-officio membership in the Supreme Judicial Council, including the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation and the Head of the Judicial Inspection Authority. Therefore, based on all of the above, and after consulting with the Minister of Justice, who informed the Council about the Council of Ministers' discussions, the Supreme Judicial Council looks forward to the Council of Ministers' decision, regarding judicial appointments, achieving the proper functioning of the judiciary.
