Seven years old. That is the age of Andy Cohen’s toughest critic, Benjamin. While the Bravo executive has navigated two decades of network chaos, his most significant professional validation came from his son’s simple assessment that his father is “funny.”

The Watch What Happens Live host shared this anecdote while discussing his family and career trajectory. Benjamin’s judgment was straightforward, yet it satisfied Cohen completely. The child understood his dad had “a show” and delivered the verdict Cohen apparently desired most.

Cohen’s Public Appearance and Family Insights

PEOPLE spoke with Cohen, 58, at the 34th annual Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame gala in New York City. When asked if his children grasped the nature of his work, Cohen replied, “They know.” He elaborated that Ben recognized he had “a show” and thought he was “funny.” Cohen added, “And so if he thinks I’m funny, then that’s good for me.”

Cohen’s role as host of Watch What Happens Live for Bravo spans years. He also manages reunion specials across the Real Housewives franchises. This visibility makes his children’s awareness of his profession increasingly unavoidable.

Inherited Comic Timing and Privacy Struggles

Benjamin has demonstrated he inherited some of his father’s comic timing. In 2024, Cohen recalled Ben suggesting strangers asking for photos should hear “Get out of here!” Cohen laughed at the memory but realized he had accidentally encouraged the behavior.

He attempted to workshop a more diplomatic response. Cohen suggested Ben say, “He’s my daddy, can we have our privacy?” The plan lasted about three steps. A stranger soon approached, and Ben immediately delivered the original “Get out of here!” line.

Recent Parenting Discussions and Relationship Updates

Family life has provided Cohen with numerous parenting stories recently. On Sept. 28, he discussed babysitting costs with longtime friend Jeff Lewis on Andy Cohen Live. Cohen stated he paid his 23-year-old sitter $30 an hour. Lewis called that “cheap,” noting he would have paid $100 for two hours with two children.

Cohen also opened up about his relationship with Kevin Sobieski in June. He described introducing Sobieski to Ben and Lucy as “so slow, and deliberate and methodical.” He characterized Sobieski as “kind and strong and smart,” adding that he loved his children and they loved him. For Cohen, however, Ben’s laugh remained the ultimate professional review.
