New video footage reveals Austin Butler and Danny Ramirez filming scenes for the upcoming Miami Vice ’85 crime thriller.

Austin Butler and Danny Ramirez appear in fresh behind-the-scenes videos from the set of Miami Vice ’85. The clips capture the actors shooting sequences for the forthcoming crime drama, highlighting their character designs and the production’s vintage visual style. The project recreates the 1980s aesthetic that defined the original police series.
These videos arrive after still images released on October 12, 2026, showed Butler portraying James “Sonny” Crockett. In those photos, he wears a turquoise shirt, white linen suit, Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses, and crochet espadrilles. His hairstyle features a blonde, mullet-inspired quiff. Dominic Sessa also appears in the latest footage, providing another view of the cast during production.
The wardrobe choices mirror the look Don Johnson popularized in the initial Miami Vice television run, where Crockett was recognized for his casual suits and distinctive eyewear. The movie reintroduces this iconic 1980s fashion to modern audiences.
Butler shares the screen with Michael B. Jordan, who takes on the role of detective Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs. The narrative draws from the pilot episode and first season of the original series, focusing on undercover officers tackling drug trafficking and organized crime networks.
The ensemble includes Ramirez and Sessa alongside Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, John Leguizamo, Andrew Schulz, Edi Gathegi, Walton Goggins, André Holland, and Michael Irby.
Joseph Kosinski directs the film, adapting Dan Gilroy’s screenplay. Kosinski previously helmed Top Gun: Maverick and F1. An earlier script draft came from Eric Warren Singer, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich.
Kosinski and Dylan Clark produce the project for Universal Pictures. The team shoots for IMAX format, with Claudio Miranda handling cinematography. Miranda collaborated with Kosinski on both Top Gun: Maverick and F1.
The source material, the original Miami Vice, aired between 1984 and 1989. It gained recognition for its stylized visuals, crime-centric plots, and cultural impact. The new adaptation revisits this universe while presenting the characters to a contemporary cinema audience.
Miami Vice ’85 is scheduled for theatrical release on May 19, 2028.
