CBS News has firmly rejected allegations that correspondent Lesley Stahl contemplated resigning from "60 Minutes" following a conflict with network leadership. The denial comes in response to claims that the disagreement stemmed from the editorial review of a report investigating violence against Palestinians by extremist Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

Network Disputes Editorial Conflict Narrative

A spokesperson for "60 Minutes" addressed the rumors via TheWrap, characterizing the account as a "ludicrous, twisted narrative." The representative defended the program’s standard procedures, noting that all segments undergo a famously rigorous editorial process that includes input from editors. According to the statement, Stahl’s recent piece required fewer edits than most other reports on the show.

The controversy originated from a Monday report by Status, which detailed tensions between Stahl, CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, and managing editor Charles Forelle. The publication described how these three figures clashed over the content and broadcast timing of the segment examining settler violence.

Disagreements Over Broadcast Timing

Status reported that the segment was initially scheduled to air early last week. However, Weiss and Forelle became involved in the screening process later in the week, leading to disputes regarding whether the report should proceed. Forelle allegedly suggested postponing the broadcast, while Stahl argued to maintain the original Sunday date.

The discussions reportedly escalated to the point where participants were uncertain if the segment would air at all. A source cited by Status indicated that the screenings had become so heated that the fate of the report remained in doubt. The outlet also claimed that Stahl considered leaving "60 Minutes" due to the dispute but did not communicate this intention to network executives.
