Egypt court jails TikToker for insulting actors' union head
A Cairo economic court sentenced a TikTok user to one month in prison and fined him 20,000 Egyptian pounds for insulting Ashraf Zaki.

The Economic Court in Cairo has issued a verdict against TikTok user Mohamed Aman Allah, sentencing him to one month of imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds on the defendant, alongside a bail requirement of 5,000 Egyptian pounds.
Court ruling details
This legal action stems from charges of defamation and insult directed at Ashraf Zaki, who serves as the head of Egypt's Actors' Union. The prosecution focused on content published by the accused that contained offensive language targeting the union leader.
Investigation and identification
The case originated with a formal complaint filed by Shaaban Saeed, the legal advisor to the Actors' Union. Saeed reported the administrator of a specific TikTok account after observing the dissemination of abusive material concerning Zaki.
Following an investigation and verification process, relevant authorities identified the individual responsible for managing the account under the name "Hamada Azam." Evidence confirmed that Mohamed Aman Allah was operating this profile. Consequently, the suspect was referred to the Economic Court, which reviewed the matter over several sessions before delivering the final judgment involving incarceration, monetary penalties, and bail conditions.
