Attorney Mathew S. Rosengart has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit targeting Selena Gomez, seeking her removal from litigation initiated by investors in the mental health startup Wondermind.

The suit accuses Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and former business partner Daniella Pierson of “falsely representing” the company. Gomez, described in the filing as the 34-year-old founder of Rare Beauty, holds a minority stake in Wondermind and served as a consultant under the title Chief Impact Officer (“CIO”). She did not manage the company, according to the motion.

Management authority rested solely with Teefey and Pierson, who operated as co-CEOs and board members. Gomez agreed only to support her mother, who co-founded Wondermind.

“Plaintiffs’ vague, generalized, and contradictory allegations concerning Selena Gomez demonstrate that Ms. Gomez could not possibly have engaged in any ‘fraud’ (she did not), is not liable to Plaintiffs (she is not) and, as a matter of law, must be dismissed from this lawsuit,” states the motion, as reported by People.

The filing emphasizes that Gomez never assumed managerial responsibilities or decision-making authority over Wondermind’s operations, finances, or strategic direction.

Lawyer’s Public Statement on the Allegations

In a statement to People following the filing, Rosengart said: “Today’s motion to dismiss demonstrates that plaintiffs never should have dragged Selena Gomez into this case as the claims against her are completely meritless if not frivolous. The notion that Selena engaged in ‘fraud’ or any other wrongdoing is absurd — and in addition to filing our motion we are exploring other avenues of relief for Ms. Gomez including sanctions against plaintiffs for improperly including her.”

Gomez’s Formal Role at Wondermind

Gomez’s formal involvement with Wondermind was limited to a consultancy role. The company conferred upon her the title of Chief Impact Officer. She invested in the firm but held no executive management function.

Daniella Pierson has “categorically” denied the investors’ allegations, according to the New York Times. Mandy Teefey has not issued a public statement.
