Jessica Lange publicly criticized production company FX regarding transportation logistics during the filming of "American Horror Story: Coven." Speaking at a PaleyFest panel in New York alongside co-star Sarah Paulson, the actress detailed how cast members were forced to drive themselves home after late-night shoots in New Orleans. She attributed this lack of support to budgetary constraints, stating that the network was unwilling to fund car services for the cast.

The New Orleans Commute Complaint

Lange recounted specific instances where she and her colleagues had to navigate their own way back to accommodations after shooting days ended between 4 and 5 in the morning. According to fan footage from the event, she described parking on streets in the French Quarter and finding their way home without assistance. When asked why FX did not provide these services, Lange responded bluntly, saying it was because they were "too fucking cheap."

Sarah Paulson, present at the panel, laughed along with the audience but did not add further details to Lange’s account. Representatives for FX did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the allegations.

Return to the Franchise After Years Away

This criticism emerged as Lange returned to the anthology series for its 13th season, which premiered last month. The new season features other series veterans including Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, and Emma Roberts. Lange’s return marks a significant shift from her previous stance; as recently as last year, she expressed little interest in rejoining the show despite having won two Emmy Awards for earlier work.

At Ireland’s Dublin International Film Festival, Lange had told a reporter she had not worked on the series for more than 10 or 12 years and stated definitively, "So no, I’m not doing it." Her last regular appearance was during Season 4, "American Horror Story: Freak Show," which aired from 2014 to 2015. She briefly reprised the role of Constance Langdon, originally introduced in Season 1 ("Murder House") in 2011, for two episodes in 2018.

Ryan Murphy’s Role in the Comeback

Lange explained on "Live with Kelly and Mark" last month that a conversation with series co-creator Ryan Murphy altered her decision. Murphy initially discussed having her play Constance again, noting it was his favorite character she portrayed. However, Lange negotiated her return based on playing four different characters across the season. She noted that while she maintained a professional relationship with Murphy through projects like "Feud: Bette and Joan" (2017) and "The Politician" (2019), the opportunity to revisit multiple roles made coming back appealing.
