She Quit Her Dream TV Job.. Here’s What She’s Doing Next

August 7 marked Lauren Sierra’s last day at CBS 4 and NBC 23 — less than a year after she joined the stations in late December 2025. She confirmed her departure via social media posts on Facebook and Instagram, stating she is leaving television news entirely to pursue a new professional path.

Sierra’s final statement to colleagues

In her Facebook announcement, Sierra wrote: “Today was my last day at CBS 4/NBC 23. I’m so grateful to have gotten the chance to report and anchor in the Rio Grande Valley. I worked with incredible journalists and I wish them all the best as I move on to an endeavor outside the news industry.”

On Instagram, she reflected more personally on her trajectory: “5 years in, around, out, back to, and now out of journalism. Younger me would be so happy to know I accomplished a dream. Future me is so proud that I accepted that dreams change.”

Career path before the Rio Grande Valley

Sierra returned home to the Rio Grande Valley to serve as a field reporter. Prior to that assignment, she worked at KTXS News in Abilene, where her roles included reporter, producer, and weekend anchor.

Her journalism experience also extended to Washington, D.C., where she served as press secretary for U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro. She spent one year reporting in the Texas Panhandle and held a position in CBS News’ corporate offices in New York.

Next chapter: law school

Sierra told MySA she plans to attend law school. Her decision follows a series of recent staff changes at ValleyCentral, including departures by Rudy Mireles, Derick Garcia, and Blake Holland from the sports desk. Noah Gulley later joined the station from Miami.

Sierra’s exit represents another major personnel shift — but unlike others, hers marks a deliberate transition out of broadcast journalism and into formal legal education.
