A U.S. State Department notification reached the family of comedian Reggie McFadden regarding his death in Tanzania, where he had resided for roughly 18 years. The actor, recognized for appearances on "Def Comedy Jam" and "In Living Color," was 57 years old. Specific details concerning the timing or cause of his passing have not been released.

Family notified by State Department

Bernice McFadden, the comedian’s sister, confirmed to TMZ that federal officials made the call to inform them of the loss. She noted that state representatives did not provide information about how or when McFadden died. Bernice also disclosed that her brother had been estranged from the family due to internal disputes described as “family s*t.”

The Hollywood Reporter independently verified the death, though circumstances remain unclear. McFadden was born in Brooklyn on November 30, 1968. He entered stand-up comedy after growing up in housing projects, securing a breakthrough spot on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” in 1991. Following this success, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting roles.

Career highlights and later life

Mcfadden joined Fox’s sketch comedy series “In Living Color” in 1993. During the show’s fifth and final season, he appeared in 23 episodes, portraying various characters. This credit remains one of his most prominent television achievements.

After “In Living Color” concluded, McFadden expanded his portfolio with guest spots on “Martin,” “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper,” “Coach,” and “Moesha.” He later played a neighbor of Larry David on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” His film work included roles in “Jacob’s Ladder” and “Little Nicky.” Additionally, he performed stand-up sets on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “The Late Show with David Letterman.”
