Edwina Sponza addressed follower comments regarding her past relationship with basketball player Ibrahim Kutluay, correcting the widely circulated duration of their involvement. While public perception suggested a four-year span, Sponza stated the relationship actually lasted 13 years. She also responded affirmatively to a query asking if Kutluay had left his "beautiful wife" for her sake.

Clarification on relationship timeline

The former model engaged with social media users who questioned the specifics of her connection with Kutluay. One comment asserted that the couple’s romance had endured for only four years. Sponza rejected this figure, replying, "13 years, not 4. Love." This correction emerged shortly after reports of a family vacation involving Kutluay and his ex-wife, Demet Şener, which had sparked renewed interest in the trio's history.

A separate inquiry posed directly to Sponza asked whether Kutluay had abandoned his spouse specifically for her. The response was a single word: "Yes." These exchanges brought the contentious divorce proceedings between Şener and Kutluay back into the public spotlight, years after the legal battles concluded.

Ibrahim Kutluay and Demet Şener married in 2005 and had two children, İrem and Ömer. In 2016, Şener filed for divorce, alleging infidelity. During these proceedings, Sponza’s name became frequently mentioned in connection with the breakdown of the marriage. Şener subsequently sued Sponza for 500,000 TL in moral compensation.

Court records from the trial noted that witnesses called by the parties made striking claims about their private lives. Conversely, witnesses presented by Sponza testified that they possessed no information regarding the alleged relationship. A ruling in the contested divorce case was issued in January 2018, but the decision was appealed.

The legal dispute reached its final resolution in March 2019, when Şener and Kutluay agreed to an uncontested divorce. Custody of the two children remained with Şener. The court dismissed Şener’s lawsuit against Sponza for moral damages.

Recent family interactions

Following the conclusion of the legal conflicts, tensions between the former spouses appeared to ease. Şener and Kutluay were recently spotted vacationing together with their children on Paros Island in Greece. The sight of the family unit prompted speculation among observers about a potential reconciliation.

Şener denied any romantic reunion, stating that she had moved past previous grievances. She explained that the improved communication with Kutluay was motivated solely by their shared responsibility toward their children.
