The live debut of “The Fate of Ophelia” occurred on Saturday night, October 17, during the 2026 Academy Museum Gala. The singer-songwriter Taylor Swift delivered the performance at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, marking the song’s first stage appearance.

Gala honors Theron, Domingo and Carpenter

This sixth annual fundraiser recognized the professional achievements of Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo, and John Carpenter. Swift helped close the evening with a setlist that included her Showgirl track alongside other hits.

According to Setlist.fm, the performance featured a backing band comprising four singers, a guitarist, a bassist, two saxophonists, a keyboardist, and a drummer. In addition to the new song, Swift sang “Blank Space,” “Love Story,” and her Toy Story 5 contribution, “I Knew It, I Knew You.”

Fundraising efforts support museum programs

Vogue reports that this year’s event generated more than $14 million for the institution. These funds support the museum’s exhibitions, education programs, and public film screenings, as well as initiatives to ensure accessibility for visitors of all ages.

Amy Homma, the museum director and president, announced Swift’s participation earlier this month. “Taylor is an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world,” Homma said in the statement confirming the performer.

Award recipients receive public recognition

Charlize Theron received the Icon Award, acknowledging the global impact of her career. John Carpenter was selected for the Luminary Award due to his contributions to filmmaking, while Colman Domingo earned the Vantage Award, which honors artists who challenge dominant narratives in cinema.

The honorees participate in public programming linked to the gala, providing museum visitors with opportunities to explore their work beyond the fundraising event. Prior to taking the stage, Swift walked the red carpet at the venue.
