The reality television icon known for launching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has criticized the "nasty" nature of the franchise's drama. In a recent interview, she detailed how her upcoming project will differ from that style.

New show focuses on feel-good factor

Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly on Friday, October 9, Vanderpump discussed her new Bravo series, Vanderpump Rules: Lisa Las Vegas. She explained that the program is designed to avoid the specific type of conflict associated with RHOBH.

"It’s not a reality show like that," Vanderpump stated. "It’s got the feel-good factor. It’s got the ambition, it’s got the humor, but it hasn’t got that [notorious RHOBH] nasty. I don’t do well with that. I didn’t do well with it on Housewives."

Marriage dynamics and personal history

The 66-year-old also addressed how relationships are portrayed on the show. She contrasted her own 44-year marriage with the unions often depicted in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

"Whether we take the piss out of each other, or take the Mickey [how] we say it in England … that playfulness, the sense of humor has seen us through," she said. She added that viewers frequently see couples on RHOBH using terms like "my cutie pie" or "my king," only to later face divorce.

"I think you see these marriages, especially on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and it’s all, ‘Oh my cutie pie, my king, my love being, my whatever. And then suddenly people are falling apart and getting divorced,” Vanderpump noted.

Background on RHOBH tenure

Vanderpump was an original main cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, joining when the first season premiered on October 14, 2010. She remained on the show for nine seasons, appearing from 2010 until 2019.

Her departure followed significant controversy during Season 9 filming in 2019. A major fallout with co-stars, dubbed Puppygate, combined with personal difficulties following her brother’s death, led to her official exit in June 2019. She did not attend the Season 9 reunion episode.
