White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia Claims Trump Never Asked About
Katie Zacharia stated she was not questioned about her legal background before being hired as White House press secretary, despite failing the bar exam.

Katie Zacharia asserted that neither President Donald Trump nor any other official inquired about her legal qualifications prior to her appointment as White House press secretary. The statement came during a Friday appearance on “Fox & Friends,” where she addressed ongoing scrutiny regarding her professional credentials and recent public appearances.
Clarifying Hiring Criteria
Zacharia emphasized that her role was defined by representing the president in the press rather than serving as White House counsel. She responded to co-host Lawrence Jones, who asked if she wished she had disclosed her failure of the bar exam to the president. “Those questions weren’t asked,” Zacharia replied. “I’m being hired as White House press secretary, not White House counsel. The conversations and the reason ... that I was hired was to represent the president in the press.”
Scrutiny Over Professional Background
The press secretary has faced criticism for claims identifying her as an attorney or lawyer, despite having failed the bar exam. Additional attention followed her initial press briefing earlier this week, which observers described as awkward and brief. During the interview, Zacharia shifted focus to what she characterized as media distractions from the administration's achievements. “The legacy media wants to put the focus and attention on me because they want to be distracted,” she said. “They want to be distracted from the major wins that President Trump is making for America.”
Prior Media Interactions
This discussion follows a separate interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity the previous night, where Zacharia was questioned about misrepresentations regarding her legal status. In the “Fox & Friends” segment, she did not provide a direct answer when asked whether President Trump retained confidence in her performance. HuffPost contacted the White House for additional comment on the matter.
