The film, which hit theaters on April 24, has grossed $430 million globally, making it one of the highest-earning releases of 2026. This financial success has fueled fan questions about whether the cinematic journey of the late pop icon will be extended.
While critical and audience opinions have been mixed, many agree the narrative feels incomplete. On social media platform X, users have been actively calling for a second installment to explore later chapters of Jackson's life, including the controversies that shadowed his career. Several cast members have hinted at the possibility, including actors Colman Domingo and Nia Long.
Jaafar Jackson, who portrays his uncle in the film, has expressed readiness to reprise the role. He noted that many aspects of Michael Jackson's story remain untold. Jaafar also voiced enthusiasm for recreating the short film "Smooth Criminal," a piece tied to one of Michael's most iconic late-1980s performances.
