Researchers from the University of "Heriot-Watt" in the UK discovered a new microscopic marine organism in Scottish locations, recording a previously unseen biological phenomenon in its reproduction: the mother cell carries a second-generation cell, while one of these newborn cells already contains a third-generation cell inside it before detaching from the mother.

The Organism and Its Scientific Name

The organism was given the scientific name "Caledochytrium aldermanii," which does not rely on traditional cell division for reproduction. Instead, a cavity forms inside the mother cell, where new cells grow. Researchers observed this process using an electron microscope and described the finding as a "shocking surprise" due to its unique biological complexity.

Habitat and Ecological Function

The organism was detected in specific Scottish marine environments, including octopus dens and areas where salmon are found. It plays a vital role in the marine ecosystem by helping clean the marine environment and recycling nutrients.

Potential Economic Value

Laboratory tests showed the organism is rich in proteins and naturally produces "DHA" acid from the omega-3 fatty acid family. These properties open up possibilities for its use in developing feed and future food industries.

Researcher Jane Boulglaas and team members announced the findings, emphasizing that directly observing the live reproductive process was an unexpected surprise, resembling science fiction scenarios more than any known biological patterns so far.
