A widely circulated video on Egyptian social media sparked intense public debate after showing a woman striking a crying schoolboy with a stick. The footage, which captured the child begging for mercy, prompted authorities to investigate and clarify the incident’s timeline and circumstances.

Police identify tutor involved

The Egyptian Interior Ministry announced that its investigation identified the woman in the clip as a high school graduate who provides private home tutoring. She resides within the Abu Suwir district of Ismailia Governorate. According to official statements, the suspect admitted the recording was not recent but dated back approximately three years.

Ministry sources clarified that the filming occurred during a private lesson inside the student’s father’s home. The person responsible for capturing the video was the child’s sister. The tutor stated she struck the boy at the request of his family due to what she described as his negligence in studies.

Family confirms disciplinary agreement

In an exclusive statement to Okaz newspaper, the brother-in-law of the accused woman provided additional context. He confirmed the incident took place three years prior, noting that the child’s father had explicitly asked her to be strict to establish the boy’s academic foundation. The relative emphasized that the father corroborated this account when questioned by relevant authorities.

The brother-in-law explained that the video remained stored on the tutor’s phone until it resurfaced online following a change of device. He highlighted that the woman specializes in foundational education stages and possesses strong English language teaching skills. Police records indicate the father did not accuse her of any violation, supporting her narrative regarding the agreed-upon disciplinary measures.

Video content and public reaction

The visual evidence shows the young boy seated on a small chair while the woman hits his feet and hands with a stick. Throughout the ordeal, the child weeps and pleads, repeating the phrase, "For God's sake, have mercy on me, Miss." This specific audio-visual element drove significant engagement across digital platforms.

Citizens demanded transparency regarding the woman’s identity and the location of the filming, calling for legal action against those involved. Initial rumors suggested the abuse occurred inside a school in Fayoum Governorate. However, educational officials in Fayoum denied this claim, stating no such incident happened within their institutions.

The Interior Ministry definitively ruled out the school setting theory, confirming the event took place in a residential home. The ministry noted the woman is not employed by the Ministry of Education. Following the verification of facts, legal procedures were commenced, and the Public Prosecution assumed responsibility for the ongoing investigation into the case.
