An assault with a sharp blade inside Helwan Courthouse has left one lawyer injured and his colleague under arrest, as Cairo prosecutors ordered a wide-ranging investigation into the incident. The public prosecution has summoned multiple eyewitnesses who were present at the scene to give their statements and clarify the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Security forces detained the accused attorney immediately after the assault, during which he used a box cutter-type blade against his fellow lawyer. Preliminary accounts indicate that a heated verbal argument between the two men escalated into a physical confrontation that culminated in the stabbing.

Investigations so far suggest the conflict stems from an ongoing legal feud between the two attorneys. At the time of the incident, each was representing an opposing side in a case being heard before the same court.

Bar Association Response

The Helwan branch of the Lawyers Syndicate issued an urgent statement expressing regret that the two colleagues had crossed a line inside the judicial premises. The syndicate announced it has opened an immediate and urgent internal investigation into the matter, noting that all involved parties and witnesses have been summoned to give their testimony next Saturday. The statement affirmed the syndicate's full commitment to impartiality and to applying the law and disciplinary procedures against any violators.
