Twisha Sharma was found dead on 12 May, and her family say she may have been killed by her husband after alleged abuse over dowry demands.

On 22 May, a lawyer said Samarth Singh was prepared to surrender to police after the disappearance that followed Twisha Sharma’s death.
Twisha Sharma was found dead on 12 May, hanging from an exercise rod on the terrace of her home. Her death was initially ruled a suicide.
Her family believe she was driven to death, or may even have been murdered, after allegedly suffering sustained physical and psychological abuse from her husband and mother-in-law over dowry demands. They are also demanding a second post-mortem examination before her body is cremated.
Twisha, 31, married Samarth Singh in December 2025 after the pair met through an online matchmaking service. He disappeared immediately after her death, and his lawyer told judges earlier today that he was prepared to surrender.
Samarth is the son of retired judge Giribala Singh, who has been accused of tampering with evidence, obstructing the investigation and compromising the crime scene in Bhopal, India. Giribala, who is currently on bail, has denied the allegations.

Twisha’s family allege her husband and mother-in-law forced her to undergo an abortion after accusing her of carrying another man’s child. They say she had reportedly been pregnant but lost the unborn baby earlier this month.
Giribala claimed Twisha herself insisted on terminating the pregnancy. She also alleged Twisha had been struggling with drug addiction.
Originally from Noida, Twisha was reportedly crowned Miss Pune in 2012. She later appeared in several adverts and a film before moving into marketing, as reported by Need To Know.
Although banned under Indian law, dowry payments remain widely practised across the country. Twisha’s age is reported as 33 in some accounts.
