German Police Surround Berlin Store After Hostage Taken
German police have launched a security operation in southern Berlin after a man took a woman hostage inside a store.

Authorities in Germany have initiated a large-scale security operation in the southern part of Berlin following an incident where a man held a woman hostage inside a retail outlet.
Initial information from Berlin police and media sources indicates that the event occurred at a "Rewe" chain store located on Hildburghauser Street in the Marienfelde district, situated in the southern area of the city.
Security forces have cordoned off the entire vicinity and blocked off streets surrounding the store. Armed special units from the Special Deployment Command (SEK) have been deployed alongside ambulances and emergency medical personnel.
Police spokesperson Stefan Petersen-Schumann confirmed that security forces have established direct communication channels with the individual holding the hostage.
The motives and identity of the perpetrator remain undisclosed at this time, with the operation ongoing to regain control of the situation and ensure the hostage's safety.
