Germany recorded an unprecedented number of heat-related deaths, reaching 16,300 cases, during the severe heatwaves that swept across Europe this summer.
This brings the total number of deaths in Germany to 16,300, up from the previous government-reported figure of 15,800 by the Robert Koch Institute last week. The new statistics cover the period from June 1st of last month to August 23rd of last month, adding an extra week compared to the previous data.
