They gouged out their eyes of three individuals with disabilities in a locked room at the care center
A caregiver was detained for locking three mentally disabled individuals in a room where severe injuries occurred, leading to charges against five staff members.
In Konya, a private care and rehabilitation facility became the site of a violent incident involving three mentally disabled residents who were confined in an activity room. The event, which took place on June 2, resulted in serious physical harm to one individual, prompting legal action against five people associated with the institution.
The Incident Inside the Locked Room
Hospital attendant Halil İbrahim B. reportedly locked residents Ahmet İsmail G., Halil İbrahim G., and Halil İbrahim Y. inside the activity room. Security footage captured the aftermath, showing Halil İbrahim G. inserting his fingers into Ahmet İsmail G.’s eyes, causing significant bleeding. During this assault, Ahmet İsmail G. attempted to open the door but failed, while Halil İbrahim Y. jumped onto Ahmet İsmail G., applying pressure to his legs and striking him.
The victims remained trapped for approximately two hours. The video shows Halil İbrahim Y. kicking the door in an attempt to alert others, but no assistance arrived until staff finally entered the room. They discovered Ahmet İsmail G. covered in blood, after which medical teams were called to provide treatment.
Legal Proceedings Against Staff
Following the incident, all three injured residents were transported to hospitals. Investigators detained five individuals: social worker Ahmet S. (39), responsible director Ali Rıza K. (36), hospital attendant Halil İbrahim B. (36), founding director Muhammet Hamza V. (34), and technician Rafet K. (63).
The Konya Public Prosecutor’s Office filed indictments charging these five with "deprivation of liberty" and "intentional injury through negligence." The indictment states that the accused failed to perform necessary checks or take precautions, leaving the disabled individuals alone in a locked room. While Halil İbrahim B. was initially arrested, he was later released pending trial, as were the other four suspects.
