Meteorology warns of severe storms in Muğla and strong winds in Istanbul, with a significant temperature drop expected from Thursday.

The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued warnings regarding heavy rainfall affecting Turkey throughout the new week. Authorities highlighted that Muğla faces very strong and locally violent precipitation until Tuesday morning, while Istanbul will experience intensified showers accompanied by strong winds on Wednesday. Officials drew attention to risks including sudden floods, waterlogging, lightning strikes, and potential disruptions to transportation.
Fevzi Burak Tekin, a weather forecast expert at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change’s General Directorate of Meteorology, provided assessments for the upcoming week. He stated that very strong and locally violent rains are expected in the surroundings of Muğla until Tuesday morning. Additionally, strong downpours are forecast for the western parts of İzmir and Aydın until Monday morning.
Tekin warned citizens to take precautions against negative impacts caused by these anticipated rains, particularly in Muğla. The meteorological service emphasized the dangers associated with heavy precipitation, listing sudden floods, waterlogging, lightning, strong winds during rainfall, local hail, tornado formation risks, and traffic interruptions as primary concerns.
In Istanbul, showers and occasional thunderstorms will dominate the first three days of the week. Expert Tekin noted that rainfall intensity will increase alongside strong winds specifically on Wednesday. Current forecasts indicate air temperatures in the city will be 19 degrees Celsius on Monday and 20 degrees on Tuesday.
By Wednesday, temperatures are projected to fall to between 15 and 16 degrees Celsius. This shift means Istanbul residents should prepare for both stronger precipitation and cooler conditions during the middle of the week.
Air temperatures across Turkey currently hover around seasonal averages. However, according to meteorological predictions, a noticeable decrease will begin on Thursday, starting from the western regions. Rainy weather is expected to persist across many areas throughout the week.
On Monday, precipitation will occur in Marmara, Aegean, Western Mediterranean, western Central Anatolia, Western Black Sea, southern Eastern Anatolia, and eastern Southeastern Anatolia. Showers are also anticipated in the vicinity of Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, and Osmaniye. Tuesday will see continued rainfall in Marmara, Aegean, Western Mediterranean, western Central Anatolia, Western Black Sea, southern Eastern Anatolia, northern and western Southeastern Anatolia, as well as Hatay and Osmaniye.
Wednesday brings the expectation that precipitation will affect the entire country. Ankara will start with partly cloudy skies on Monday before rain begins overnight. Intermittent showers are predicted for the capital on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures dropping from 19 degrees on Monday to 18 on Tuesday and 16 on Wednesday. İzmir will experience rain for three consecutive days, with strong downpours expected in coastal areas particularly on Monday and Tuesday.
