Hong Kong police recovered 30 kilograms of stolen gold after suspects replaced it with fabric softener bottles in a Kwun Tong hotel room.

Hong Kong law enforcement authorities have successfully retrieved a significant quantity of pilfered precious metal valued at approximately 30 million Hong Kong dollars. The recovery follows a meticulously executed theft that occurred within a hotel accommodation located in the Kwun Tong district, where perpetrators employed a specific deception to conceal their illicit gains.
The incident came to light after Chinese national lodged a formal report with local authorities detailing the loss of roughly 30 kilograms of pure gold granules from his personal luggage during his stay at the establishment. According to the victim's account, the thieves substituted the heavy gold contents with eight bottles of fabric softener, which possessed a nearly identical weight profile. This swap was intended to mask the removal of the valuable material without immediately altering the physical characteristics of the bag.
Concurrent with this deceptive substitution, a companion who had been sharing the hotel room with the victim disappeared from the scene. The combination of the missing associate and the altered luggage contents formed the initial basis of the criminal complaint filed by the affected individual.
Following intensive investigative procedures, police officers managed to unravel the complex scheme behind the robbery. Two men suspected of involvement in the theft were apprehended by authorities. Specialized units continue to conduct inquiries to determine the full extent of the planning involved in the crime and to establish whether any additional individuals participated in the operation.
