Hong Kong law enforcement successfully retrieved approximately 30 million Hong Kong dollars worth of gold, equivalent to 3.8 million US dollars, following a theft from a hotel room in the Kwun Tong district. The recovery operation was executed with precision after authorities received a report detailing the disappearance of the precious metal.

Theft Details and Weight Discrepancy

A Chinese man reported that nearly 30 kilograms of pure gold granules were taken from his luggage while he was staying at the hotel. According to his statement, the perpetrators substituted the gold with eight bottles of fabric softener. These containers were selected because their combined weight closely matched that of the stolen gold, an attempt designed to conceal the theft and delay its discovery.

The incident coincided with the disappearance of a friend who had been sharing the room with the victim. This development added further ambiguity to the circumstances surrounding the case, prompting investigators to examine the timeline and relationships involved more closely.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

Police inquiries resulted in the arrest of two men suspected of involvement in the robbery. Authorities continue to investigate the planning behind the operation and are verifying whether additional accomplices played a role in the incident. The focus remains on uncovering the full scope of the criminal network responsible for the high-value theft.
