Japanese Woman Stitches Neighbor's Lips Shut to Silence Her

A disturbing incident shook Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan when a woman reportedly punished her roommate by sewing her lips completely shut, preventing her from speaking or seeking help.

The case came to light unexpectedly in a nearby store, where a 42-year-old woman entered visibly terrified and wearing a white mask covering her entire face. Unable to speak, she handed a trembling store employee a small note that read, "Please help me!"

Upon removing the mask, store workers were shocked to discover that her lips had been entirely sewn shut with a needle and thread. They immediately contacted Koga police to rescue her.

Official investigations and media reports revealed that the victim had been living in the home of the accused, Masai Sakurai, aged 49, since April 2025. During these months, the victim endured severe psychological and physical abuse, leaving her too frightened to attempt escape from her tormentor.

On June 29, Sakurai allegedly committed the act of forcibly sewing the victim’s lips and detained her inside the residence. The following day, when the accused left the house to run errands, the victim overcame her fear and fled to the nearby store to seek help.

Further examination of Sakurai’s social behavior uncovered unusual details. Close acquaintances described her as someone who often presented a facade of kindness, known among neighbors for sheltering girls and women who had lost their homes due to family disputes.

A witness who previously visited the residence reported seeing several other residents living there, raising unsettling questions about whether the victim was the sole individual subjected to such torture.

Japanese police have surrounded the house and are intensifying interrogations of other residents and witnesses present during the incident to uncover the motives behind this sadistic act. Authorities have maintained confidentiality regarding whether Sakurai has confessed to the violent assault following her arrest.
