A 16-year-old student in Malaysia attacked a teacher with an axe and knife, livestreaming the incident before being subdued by classmates.

In Kuching, Sarawak, a 16-year-old male student at Tunku Putra-HELP International School attacked a female teacher with cutting instruments on the morning of October 21. The suspect had mounted a smartphone to his head to broadcast the assault live for approximately 12 minutes. Police later recovered a small axe, a knife, and firework-like explosive materials from his bag.

The recorded footage showed the student preparing in a school restroom before walking through the corridor toward the classroom. During the attack, the phone dislodged, cutting off the visual feed while audio continued briefly. Security camera images from inside the class depicted the student approaching the teacher and striking her. The educator sustained hand injuries while attempting to stop the aggressor.
Classmates subdue attacker; teacher stable
Another student assisted in restraining the attacker until police arrived following an emergency call at 08:03. The injured teacher was transported to a hospital, where school administration confirmed her condition is stable with no life-threatening risks. No other individuals were harmed during the incident. The suspect was detained and subsequently released on police bail pending investigation.
Conflicting reports on weapon used
Initial accounts stated the attack involved an axe, but later explanations indicated the teacher may have been cut by the knife found in the student’s possession. Consequently, discrepancies remain regarding which specific tool caused the injury. Authorities are investigating charges related to dangerous weapon use and explosives legislation. Sarawak police officials noted that inquiries into the motive behind the violence are ongoing.
School tightens security protocols
Classes ended early after the event, with parents requested to collect their children immediately. The school announced enhanced safety measures, including stricter campus entry checks and the deployment of three auxiliary police officers. Psychological support services have been initiated for affected students and staff. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission removed the live-streamed footage of the attack from online platforms.
