Egyptian authorities have taken into custody Brazilian social media personality Malevola Alves and a companion following their detention in Alexandria. The two women are accused of performing sexually explicit movements in public spaces and harassing bystanders, actions they admitted were filmed specifically to increase viewership on their online platforms.

Detention details and admissions

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior confirmed that Alves and her friend were apprehended for engaging in inappropriate conduct on the streets of Alexandria. Officials stated that the pair recorded these moments and subsequently shared them across their social media accounts. During questioning, both women acknowledged that their primary motivation for creating and posting the videos was to generate higher engagement metrics.

Ministry sources characterized the behavior observed in the footage as sexual exhibitionism and harassment within a public domain. As a result of these findings, legal proceedings were initiated against the suspects, and their case file has been transferred to the prosecution. Details regarding formal charges or potential release remain undisclosed at this stage.

Passport seizure and police interaction

Before her arrest, Alves posted on her social media channels describing how she and her companion were escorted to a police station. She reported that authorities confiscated their passports during the process. According to Alves, officers also directed questions toward them concerning their gender identities while they were in custody.

Jonatha Carvalho Matos, serving as Alves’s attorney, announced that his team has established communication with the Brazilian Embassy in Cairo as well as Egyptian officials. Matos indicated that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of his client and to protect her legal rights throughout the investigation.
