Paris police detained a man on Saturday after he climbed the Eiffel Tower and raised the American flag on the landmark.
According to a statement from the French police, the individual was apprehended after ascending the tower and displaying the US flag, which led to the evacuation of the tower's base and its first two levels.
The trespasser was intercepted upon reaching the third level of the Parisian monument and was subsequently taken into custody.
Security forces later removed the American flag that had been raised on the tower.
This incident coincided with the commencement of celebrations across the United States marking the 250th anniversary of the historic Declaration of Independence.
