Mother, 30, and 12-Year-Old Son Drown in Private Pool During Rescue Attempt

A rescue attempt turned into a family tragedy in Chesterfield County, Virginia, where a 30-year-old woman and her 12-year-old son died by drowning in a private swimming pool. The incident occurred after the boy began experiencing difficulty in the water and his mother entered the pool to help him.

According to People magazine, the event took place along Bradley Bridge Road in Chesterfield County, as reported by local media outlets.

The boy was already in the pool when his mother noticed he was struggling in the water.

She attempted to reach him and pull him to safety but encountered difficulties in the water herself, resulting in her own submersion.

Police, fire, and rescue teams responded rapidly to the scene following an emergency call and launched immediate search-and-rescue operations for both individuals.

Despite these efforts, neither the mother nor her son could be revived. Authorities declared them deceased at the scene.

Family left with five children

A fundraising page identified the victims as Maria Elena Lopez Solis and her son Jonathan. The page stated the family is raising funds to repatriate their remains to Guatemala for burial, per the family’s wishes.

The page added that Lopez Solis was the mother of five children and left behind her children and life partner following the incident.
