Twelve people have been killed in a wave of wildfires that erupted across multiple cities in eastern Algeria.

Algerian Interior Minister Saïd Saaoud stated in remarks delivered on Wednesday evening that five deaths occurred in Jijel Province, four in Béjaïa Province, and three in Tizi Ouzou Province.

Current Fire Situation

The Algerian Civil Defense reported a total of 173 fires. Of these, 56 have been extinguished, while 75 remain active. Most of the ongoing blazes are concentrated in the provinces of Béjaïa, Tizi Ouzou, Skikda, Jijel, El Tarf, Mila, and Sétif.
