Media reports have revealed the reason why Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has so far refused to extend his contract with the royal club.
Radio Marca had indicated that Vinicius reached an agreement with Real Madrid's management regarding the renewal of his contract, but the Brazilian star, for his own reasons, did not want to sign yet, preferring to postpone the matter until after the 2026 World Cup.
The radio station explained that the player made this decision due to his declining performance over the past two years, and hopes to deliver an outstanding performance in the World Cup to enhance his market value and demand larger sums of money. The radio station saw this as legitimate and understandable, but the style and content do not reflect the behavior of someone who "dies of love for Real Madrid."
According to sports journalist Ramon Alvarez, via his podcast, "Vinicius Junior is still demanding a net salary of up to 30 million euros to renew his contract, while Real Madrid's offer remains at 20 million euros; which has caused negotiations between the two parties to stop at the moment."
It is worth noting that Vinicius scored Real Madrid's two goals in the recent match against Espanyol, which delayed Barcelona's crowning of the La Liga title. The Camp Nou stadium is scheduled to host the Clasico match next Sunday, within the 35th round of the championship.
Barcelona has 88 points at the top of the Spanish league standings, 11 points ahead of runner-up Real Madrid, and a draw is enough for the Catalan team to officially clinch the La Liga title.
