A new leak has revealed that Apple is working on a radically different generation of iPhones, internally codenamed “MH1” or “Mobile Hologram 1.” The device is rumored to feature a glasses-free, three-dimensional holographic display, a move that could push smartphones into a new era of “spatial computing.”

According to the report, Samsung is developing the new screen, while Apple aims to launch the technology by 2030. The project, however, remains in its early research and development stages.

How the 3D iPhone Screen Would Work

The leaked technology relies on combining advanced eye-tracking with an optical system based on “refractive beam steering.” This technique uses microscopic structures within the display layer to direct light precisely at the user’s eyes from accurate angles, creating a genuine sense of depth as if elements are emerging from the screen.

The display is said to include a 3D nanolayer integrated into an AMOLED panel, paired with a special algorithm that allows the user to move the phone and view scenes from different angles. This would effectively enable a “360-degree rotation” around objects appearing on the screen.

Critically, the phone would maintain full 4K resolution during standard use, with the holographic effect activating only when supported content is being viewed.

Apple’s Years-Long Preparation

While the concept may sound like science fiction, Apple’s history with 3D display technology suggests the project is not a fleeting rumor. The company has filed patents for glasses-free 3D screens since 2008, and in 2014, it returned to developing “tactile hologram” technologies using micro-lenses.

John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, has described the concept of “spatial computing” as inevitable, stating the technology is still in its early stages. Apple has already offered an initial glimpse of this direction through the “Spatial Scenes” feature within iOS 26, which adds 3D depth effects to photos on modern iPhones.

Are We Nearing the Holographic Phone Future?

If these leaks prove accurate, the “space iPhone” could represent the biggest transformation in phone design since the arrival of touchscreens. The significant advancements in OLED screens and eye-tracking technology make the idea of holographic phones more realistic than it was years ago.

However, there is no official confirmation from Apple as of yet, meaning all current information remains within the realm of leaks and technical speculation.
