French Prosecutors Open Preliminary Investigation Into Elon Musk
Paris prosecutors have launched a preliminary investigation into Elon Musk and his company X, after Musk ignored a summons to appear in court.

A preliminary investigation has been opened in Paris against Elon Musk and his company X, formerly Twitter, according to a judicial source cited by French newspaper Le Monde. The probe also targets Linda Yaccarino, the company’s former chief executive.
The decision follows Musk’s failure to comply with a summons to give testimony before prosecutors on April 20. A lawyer for X, Camille Ayari, did not respond to Le Monde’s request for comment.
Background of the Investigation
Prosecutors had previously announced a search of X’s offices in France, conducted in coordination with Europol and the French gendarmerie’s cybercrime unit. According to Agence France-Presse, these actions are linked to an investigation opened against the social platform in January 2025.
That investigation stemmed from complaints about the functioning of X’s algorithms, as well as complaints concerning the platform’s integrated chatbot, Grok. The chatbot is accused of publishing Holocaust denial content and AI-generated obscene images.
