Apple HomeView to Support YouTube, Netflix via CarPlay Compatibility
Apple's updated developer guide confirms that video apps like YouTube and Netflix can run on the new HomeView device if they support CarPlay.

Apple is preparing to allow third-party video applications, including YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+, to operate on its new HomeView device. This capability depends on whether these apps are compatible with the CarPlay system, according to a recently updated developer guide from the company.
CarPlay Integration for HomeView
The revised CarPlay developer documentation specifies that audio and video applications already compatible with CarPlay will function on Apple HomeView without requiring any modifications. The guide indicates that HomeView will display apps that have obtained permissions to run audio or video services through the CarPlay framework.
As reported by 9to5mac, Apple unveiled the HomeView hardware without initially detailing how it would handle external app support. However, the new developer guidelines clarify which applications can be executed on the device, despite the fact that HomeView does not include an App Store for users to download apps in the same manner as iPhones.
Impact on Video App Development
Earlier this year, Apple introduced video app support to CarPlay alongside the iOS 27 operating system. Nevertheless, running these applications on vehicles requires explicit support from car manufacturers, a feature most automakers do not currently provide. Consequently, developers had limited incentive to ensure their apps were CarPlay-compatible.
The introduction of HomeView may alter this dynamic by offering app developers a new motivation to invest in creating versions compatible with the system. Under this approach, major streaming services such as YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+ could make their applications available on HomeView simply by adding CarPlay support.
This potential shift benefits not only owners of the new device but also existing CarPlay users, who may see an increase in the number of video apps compatible with the platform if companies choose to develop this functionality. The report suggests that major video services might accelerate their efforts to support Apple’s new hardware, with some applications potentially becoming available before the HomeView launch date on November 13. No official announcement has yet been made regarding which specific apps will be accessible at launch.
