Huawei will launch the Nova 16 series in China on June 1, featuring four models and updated camera layouts, with global availability uncertain.
Huawei is set to release the Nova 16 series in China on June 1, 2026, with pre-orders currently available. The collection includes four variants: Nova 16z, Nova 16, Nova 16 Pro, and Nova 16 Ultra, marking an advancement in the mid-range smartphone category.
The series introduces a notable change in camera design. The Nova 16, Pro, and Ultra models feature a horizontal dual-module camera arrangement, differing from the prevalent large circular camera islands seen in the market. Conversely, the Nova 16z adopts a vertical square camera block, distinguishing itself among mid-range devices.
Each model is equipped with different chipsets: the Nova 16 uses the Kirin 8030, the Pro is powered by the Kirin 9010S, and the Ultra is fitted with the Kirin 9020. All devices operate on Huawei's HarmonyOS platform.
Displays across the lineup support refresh rates exceeding 120Hz and incorporate 1440Hz PWM dimming technology, designed to reduce eye strain caused by screen flicker. Cameras on all models employ 50MP RYYB sensors combined with Huawei's Red Maple 2.0 image processing system.
The Nova 16 series also brings back gradient color finishes reminiscent of those featured on the Pura 90 series. Currently, pre-orders in China are available only for a Sky Blue color option. The Ultra model is offered exclusively with 1TB of storage.
Regarding international availability, Huawei's presence remains limited in markets such as the US and UK. The Nova 15 Ultra was previously accessible in the UK solely through third-party importers at approximately £650. The Nova 16 series is expected to follow a similar distribution pattern, with a potential global launch possibly occurring in late 2026, although no official confirmation exists.
Since 2025, HarmonyOS has seen improvements, narrowing the gap with Android; however, its App Gallery ecosystem still lacks the extensive app selection found on Google Play, posing a challenge for Android users contemplating a switch. Should a global version be released, import costs are likely to increase the price beyond the Chinese market launch figures.
