Roblox Introduces Roblox Kids and Roblox Select Accounts with Enhanced Safety Features

Roblox announced on Wednesday the global launch of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts. These new account types are designed for users under 16 and include features such as age verification, content rating, supervision systems, and parental controls integrated within a unified safety framework. Initially released in selected markets including Australia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, these accounts are now available in multiple countries.

Roblox explained that users are automatically assigned to the appropriate account category based on the platform’s age verification systems. Roblox Kids accounts target children aged 5 to 8 and provide the highest level of virtual protection on the platform. Users with Kids accounts can only access games rated as "minimal" or "moderate" in content maturity, and the chat feature is disabled by default.

The second new account type, Roblox Select, is intended for users aged 9 to 15. Roblox stated that although communication features vary depending on the user’s age and region, Select accounts allow access to games rated up to a "moderate" maturity level. These accounts also include additional protective measures that remain in effect for users under 16.

Roblox confirmed that both Kids and Select accounts are subject to stricter game review standards. This involves developer verification, enhanced content monitoring, and immediate evaluation processes before games become available to younger audiences. Furthermore, experiences involving sensitive topics, social interaction environments, and free drawing tools are excluded by default.

Alongside the new accounts, Roblox is expanding parental control tools. Parents who link their accounts to their child’s Roblox profile can monitor gameplay activity, manage friend lists, set screen time limits, and adjust spending settings. A new game approval feature allows parents to manually grant access to specific experiences that fall outside the default account settings.

Finally, Roblox is enforcing tighter restrictions on external links. While the platform already prohibits social media links, users under 16 will soon be barred from sharing or displaying such links on profiles, game pages, community pages, and creator hub lists. The company also plans to adopt the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) content rating framework later this year.
