SpaceX is preparing to launch its Starship Flight 13 today following a postponement caused by adverse weather conditions. The company’s launch window extends from 5:45 PM to 7:15 PM Central Time, providing a 90-minute period for the rocket’s takeoff.

Yesterday’s attempt was halted due to thunderstorms and rain, but current forecasts indicate favorable weather for today’s launch. Although the window opens at 5:45 PM CT, delays and pauses are common with this test vehicle, so the actual launch time may vary. Updates on the launch status will be available on SpaceX’s X account.

Objectives of Starship Flight 13

This upcoming flight will be suborbital, consistent with previous test launches, aiming to collect flight data on the updated V3 version of Starship. The mission will evaluate modifications made since Flight 12, which experienced a booster failure during splashdown and an engine malfunction that resulted in a lower trajectory than intended.

Flight 13’s Starship will also carry the first Starlink V3 satellites into space. Despite the suborbital nature of the flight and the expectation that the vehicle will burn up upon reentry within an hour, these satellites will attempt to deploy solar panels and establish a connection with the Starlink network. Deploying these larger, more advanced V3 satellites is a primary objective for SpaceX’s Starship program.

Flight Profile and Testing Procedures

The flight pattern will resemble previous Starship launches. The booster is expected to perform a soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico, while the Starship itself aims for a precision landing in the Indian Ocean. Throughout the flight, various tests will be conducted, including engine relights, aerodynamic maneuvers, and assessments of heat shield tiles across the vehicle.
