Spotify and Anthropic Outages Hit Thousands of US Users

Technical failures struck Spotify’s music streaming service and Anthropic’s Claude artificial intelligence platform on Tuesday, impacting thousands of users across the United States. Both services began gradually returning to normal operations after several hours of disruption.

User Reports Spike During Disruptions

Data from Down Detector, a website specializing in tracking digital service outages, indicated that more than 17,000 users in the US reported issues with Spotify by 10:12 AM Eastern Time. Simultaneously, reports concerning the Claude application exceeded 11,000.

Spotify acknowledged the situation via its official service status account on the X platform, stating it was aware of "some problems" and that teams were investigating. The company did not disclose the specific causes of the outage at that time.

Claude Service Status Details

Anthropic’s official status page for Claude services showed the incident began around 2:00 PM GMT. This timeframe saw increased error rates on Claude.ai, as well as on mobile and desktop applications. Affected products included Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and the Claude API interface.

The scope of the problem expanded during the outage period. Some users faced difficulties logging in, initiating new conversations, using voice chats, running Claude Code and Cowork sessions, executing purchases, and uploading files.

The company issued a warning that messages sent between 2:00 PM and 2:59 PM GMT might not have been saved. By 2:36 PM GMT, Anthropic stated it had mitigated the first part of the issue. Most services were declared back to normal operation by 2:59 PM GMT. A subsequent update confirmed continued normal functionality while systems remained under monitoring to ensure stability.

No Link Between Incidents Confirmed

Neither Spotify nor Anthropic has revealed the technical root cause behind their respective outages. Additionally, neither company announced any connection between the two separate incidents.

This disruption for Claude follows a distinct event involving Anthropic’s services just one week prior. On September 22, error rates rose across several models, including Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Mythos 5.1, and Claude Opus 5. The company resolved that issue approximately an hour and a half after it began.
