TikTok launches a conversational AI shopping assistant and one-click checkout, partnering with Salesforce and Stripe to capture more e-commerce transactions.

A new artificial intelligence tool designed to guide users through product discovery and purchase is now live on TikTok. The social media giant introduced a Shopping Assistant alongside a streamlined checkout mechanism that enables direct buying from brands without leaving the app’s interface.
The company characterizes the Shopping Assistant as a conversational agent capable of retaining context and user preferences throughout an interaction. It delivers real-time guidance covering product specifications, shipping details, sizing options, and stock availability. This functionality aims to resolve consumer queries instantly while facilitating transaction completion within the chat window.
Integration with the main algorithmic video stream allows for immediate action. Users can execute a one-click purchase directly from their For You feed when viewing brand content. This structural change positions the discovery engine not just as a source of inspiration, but as a point-of-sale terminal.
By embedding these capabilities natively, TikTok seeks to prevent users from migrating to third-party generative AI platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT for product questions. The strategy consolidates the shopping journey, potentially increasing the volume of transactions captured internally rather than directing traffic to external retailers or search engines.
Development of these features involved collaboration with major commerce infrastructure providers. Partners include Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe. While TikTok Shop has served as the primary vehicle for the company’s e-commerce growth since its U.S. launch in September 2023, this expansion moves beyond the dedicated marketplace hub. Shopping utilities are now woven into the core application experience.
Recent figures highlight the platform’s growing commercial influence. TikTok’s Economic Impact Report, released last week, states that activity on the site contributed $81 billion to the GDP of U.S. businesses. Additionally, 54 million Americans reported making a purchase after viewing content on the platform. Market research firm eMarketer estimates TikTok Shop generated approximately $15.8 billion in U.S. sales in 2025, accounting for roughly 18% of all domestic social commerce.
