French Substitute Keeper Stops Michael Olise Celebrating Goal Against Morocco
French substitute goalkeeper Bress Samba prevented Michael Olise from joining the celebration after France's second goal versus Morocco in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals.

Michael Olise, the playmaker for France, moved toward the sideline to join his teammates in celebrating with Ousmane Dembélé after the second goal against Morocco. However, substitute goalkeeper Bress Samba suddenly stopped him and pushed him away.
France defeated Morocco 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinals where they will face the winner of the Spain-Belgium match.
This action by Samba was due to a lesser-known rule which requires that when play is resumed, all players except the one taking the kick-off must be in their own half of the field.
If all French players had left the pitch, Morocco could have immediately taken the kick-off and scored into an empty net.
A similar incident occurred in the 2022 World Cup final when Theo Hernandez pushed Dayot Upamecano back onto the field, so Samba was alert to prevent a French mishap.
Some attentive fans on social media quickly understood the situation, which initially seemed unusual.
One user on X commented, "There must be at least one player on the field, otherwise the opponents can restart the attack and easily score a goal."
Another added, "Look at how committed the French substitute goalkeeper is. He is fully engaged in the match and smart. This is how teams are built and championships are won."
