Folarin Balogun, the leading scorer for the United States at the 2026 World Cup, broke his silence after the team's elimination, addressing American supporters with an apology following the 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the round of 16.

Before the match, Balogun had sparked controversy when FIFA lifted his suspension, which had been imposed due to a red card received in the round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. This decision allowed him to participate against Belgium.

Through a message posted on his official account on the platform X, the Monaco striker expressed his sorrow over the US team's exit, stating: "This is my first World Cup participation, and it is extremely painful to wait four years to compete again at the highest level of football. I want to apologize to our fans; we were not at the required level when it mattered most. We let you down at the decisive moment."

Despite the disappointment of elimination, Balogun expressed confidence in the future of American soccer, highlighting that the experience will motivate the team to return stronger.

He added, "Soccer in America will become bigger and stronger. The belief in the project, talent, and passion is continuously growing, and I am certain that the best days are yet to come. The future always belongs to those who never stop believing in their abilities, and this moment will give us the strength to come back."

The Belgian team ended the hopes of the host nation by securing their place in the quarterfinals, thanks to a double from Charles De Ketelaere and goals from Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku.

The match concluded with a humorous moment as Belgian players celebrated their fourth goal by imitating a dance associated with former US President Donald Trump, a scene that attracted significant attention on social media.
