A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Amakusa and Ashikita areas in Kumamoto Prefecture, southwest Japan, at 7:59 a.m. local time Thursday, with no immediate reports of casualties or material damage.
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake shook the Amakusa and Ashikita regions of Kumamoto Prefecture in southwest Japan on Thursday morning, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The tremor occurred at 7:59 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located in those same areas and a focal depth of approximately 10 kilometers.
The agency recorded the strongest observed seismic intensity as “4” on Japan’s seismic intensity scale. The quake’s coordinates were approximately 32.5 degrees north latitude and 130.5 degrees east longitude.
No tsunami warning was issued by Japanese authorities following the event. Relevant agencies continue monitoring seismic activity in the region.
