Al-Zidi dismisses Maysan operations commander over militia attacks from Iraq

Prime Minister of Iraq Ali Al-Zidi dismissed the commander of Maysan Operations Command early Saturday, ordering the formation of a special investigative council against the city's operations leadership, following recent militia attacks on Saudi Arabia launched from Iraq.

Salah Al-Naaman, spokesperson for the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, stated in a statement that "The Prime Minister, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Ali Falih Al-Zidi, directed the formation of a special investigative council against the Maysan Operations Command."

Al-Naaman added that "The Supreme Commander ordered the removal of the operations commander from his post, following confirmed evidence that the attacks targeting our brethren in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia originated from one of the sites within the province."

The Iraqi news agency "WAN" reported that Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein emphasized during a call with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan the importance of maintaining communication and coordination to support security and stability in the region.

Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing communication, coordination, and consultation between the two countries, which will contribute to supporting regional security and stability and enhancing mutual cooperation.
