Axios: Mossad chief visited Washington ahead of resumption of war with Iran

Axios reported Wednesday, citing two unnamed informed sources, that the head of the Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad), Roman Gofman, traveled to Washington two weeks ago to discuss the issue of war with Iran.

According to a report published by the site, "Gofman is one of the closest advisors to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and this was his first visit to Washington since assuming his position in June."

The Mossad chief's visit came ahead of escalating tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of fighting.

An Israeli source told the site, "One of the goals of Gofman's visit was coordination with the White House regarding negotiations with Iran on a nuclear deal."

The two sources mentioned that "Gofman met with the Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), John Ratcliffe, along with officials in the White House."

Ratcliffe, within the close circle of US President Donald Trump, was among the most skeptical voices regarding the memorandum of understanding with Iran.

He warned before signing the memorandum that Iran would interpret the agreement differently than the United States, including the clauses related to the Strait of Hormuz.
