Axios reported, citing American officials, that the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) issued instructions to US Central Command several days ago to complete preparations for the possible resumption of major military operations against Iran.

The officials clarified that the directives did not include a specific date for the start of strikes, noting that US President Donald Trump has not made a final decision regarding the resumption of combat operations.

The site cited American and Israeli sources stating that potential strikes could occur before the US midterm elections, and possibly before the Israeli elections scheduled one week prior.

According to the sources, the resumption of major military operations may include widespread bombing of Iranian energy facilities, infrastructure, and nuclear sites.

A Pentagon official said the ministry's mission is to prepare military options and present them to the President to make the appropriate decision.

For his part, a White House official confirmed that "all options are available to Trump at any time."

The official added that the United States is in a "very strong position," referring to what he described as Washington's control over the Strait of Hormuz and the deterioration of the Iranian economy.
