British authorities said Tuesday that counter-terrorism police are investigating an arson at a former Jewish synagogue in east London, following a series of similar attacks on Jewish targets in recent weeks.
According to Reuters, a statement said police were called earlier today following reports of a fire at the former synagogue building. Police said minor damage was caused to several gates and a lock on the building's facade, with no injuries reported.
The U.S. Embassy in London warned American citizens residing in the United Kingdom to exercise caution in public places, remain calm, and review their personal security plans.
This came after British government officials earlier raised the country's "terrorist threat" level to the second highest level.
Britain raised the terrorist threat level from "substantial" to "severe" on Thursday, following an anti-Semitic stabbing attack this week in north London.
The threat level indicates a high likelihood of an attack within the next six months.
