Dutch Crown Princess Amalia Promoted to Sergeant in the Armed Forces
Crown Princess Amalia of the Netherlands has been promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Royal Dutch Navy, becoming the first female member of the royal family to serve in the armed forces.

The Press Office of the Royal House of the Netherlands announced that Her Royal Highness the Princess of Orange, Catharina-Amalia, has been awarded the rank of sergeant in the Kingdom's Armed Forces.
A statement from the Royal House noted that the promotion ceremony took place on Saturday, October 17, aboard the sailing ship "Stad Amsterdam" (Statseraad Limkol) at the port of Den Helder.
Princess Amalia currently serves in the ranks of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Last week, she sailed aboard the "Stad Amsterdam" alongside first-year students from the Naval Institute. The three-masted sailing ship, built in Norway in 1914, is regularly used as a training vessel for the Navy.
In August, the Crown Princess completed an advanced course in general field military training. She previously served as an intern at the Ministry of Defence and within the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
The Royal House in The Hague announced on September 30, 2025, that Princess Catharina-Amalia had begun her military training.
The daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, aged 22, started as a third-class sailor in the Navy and a third-class soldier in the Army and Air Force. She combines her military training with her law studies in Amsterdam.
Amalia is the first woman from the Royal Family to serve in the ranks of the military.
