End of Eilat's Dream? Egypt Races to Complete Strategic 500-Kilometer Rail Corridor
Egypt is accelerating the construction of a strategic 500-kilometer rail corridor linking Al-Arish Port to Taba, raising economic and strategic concerns in Tel Aviv regarding Eilat's logistical dominance.

The Israeli platform "Hayom" noted that "Egypt is racing against time to complete a strategic rail corridor spanning 500 kilometers, connecting the port of Al-Arish with the Taba region."
It emphasized that "this Egyptian progress raises economic and strategic fears in Tel Aviv about losing control over southern gateways and a decline in its logistical standing," noting that "Egypt is expanding the port of Al-Arish and pushing the route southward, while the dream of an Israeli dry port in Shachor remains hostage to a phantom railway project that has never materialized."
The platform considered that "for the residents of Eilat, the name Taba makes the Egyptian plan feel very close, yet the distance between the plan and the arrival of a train at the city's southern neighbor remains significant, which fuels Israeli anxiety about Taba becoming a direct commercial competitor."
