French MEP Valerie Hayer calls for reliable access to advanced AI models for EU security bodies ahead of European Council meeting.

Valerie Hayer, a French Member of the European Parliament representing the Renew Europe group, has called for security agencies within the European Union to be granted reliable access to the latest artificial intelligence models. The request was reported by the website Raporteur.
Letter sent to Council President
Prior to the upcoming European Council meeting, Hayer dispatched a letter to its president, Antonio Costa. In this correspondence, she outlined the position of her political group and urged the European Union to ensure that European security services have dependable access to advanced and refined artificial intelligence systems.
The MEP specifically requested the acceleration of deploying defensive systems based on artificial intelligence technology. Her proposal emphasizes the need for these tools to be available to security apparatuses across the bloc.
National capabilities development
Hayer also directed calls toward individual European nations, urging them to intensify their efforts in developing autonomous capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence. She specified that these national capacities should focus on four key areas: defense, cybersecurity, intelligence operations, and critical infrastructure protection.
