US President Donald Trump published on Saturday the phone number of Republican Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, aiming to pressure him to support a bill that makes daylight saving time permanent.

Trump took the rare step of publishing Cotton's personal mobile number and urged Americans to call him to apply pressure, according to the Associated Press.

In July, the US House of Representatives approved the "Sunshine Protection Act," which aims to adopt daylight saving time permanently. However, the legislation faces obstacles in the Senate due to opposition from some Republican lawmakers.

While supporters, including the White House, believe the amendment will provide additional daytime hours aligned with peak daily activity for citizens, opponents warn that the move will make winter mornings darker and more dangerous, particularly for children waiting for school buses and parents heading to work.

However, there was a notable escalation by Trump regarding an issue that has long occupied both men; while Trump supports making daylight saving time permanent, Cotton strongly opposes it.

As he left the White House to attend a rally in Vandalia, Ohio, Trump told reporters: "It is a difficult task requiring significant effort from many people; they keep running around for two days to change all the clocks at home. It confuses everyone."

Trump considered that changing the time gives golfers less time on the greens and tennis players less time on the courts. He blamed Cotton for halting the bill.
